Shenzhen Peng City Football Club hosts launch event in front of fans and unveils new Club crest

Shenzhen, China, February 27, 2024 – Shenzhen Peng City Football Club today hosted a launch event ahead of the 2023-24 Chinese Super League season. The Club’s new crest, full squad and 2024 ticketing programme were presented to its supporters, media and the Shenzhen football community at the in-person celebratory event.

The newly launched Club crest is based on a circular layout, consistent with many of City Football Group’s sister clubs, including Manchester City, New York City and Mumbai City. The new crest aims to highlight the modernity, technology and innovation of Shenzhen, an international metropolis that the Club will now call home.

The abbreviation "SZ” is used throughout the crest design. The two letters are made from simple and bright triangular shapes which represent many well-known landmarks in Shenzhen, such as the Window of the World, Wutong Mountain and Shenzhen Flower Bougainvillea. The sky-blue background, also the colour of the team's home jersey, symbolizes the sea and the openness and inclusiveness of Shenzhen as a coastal city.

David Tang, CEO of City Football Group China, said:

“The future of Shenzhen Peng City Football Club is very bright. The Club will harness the unique Shenzhen characteristics and carry forward the Shenzhen spirit. We will work hard to establish meaningful and close ties with the city, fans and the communities of Shenzhen. The aim of the Club is to work together with the people of Shenzhen to build strong foundations and become a Club that represents the city and makes everyone in Shenzhen proud.”

Roel De Vries, Chief Operating Officer of City Football Group, continued:

“Shenzhen Peng City Football Club is an important member of our City Football Group Family. Shenzhen is a dynamic and modern city with so many passionate football fans. Together, we will head into the Chinese Super League season and are confident that through our teamwork, we will take Shenzhen Peng City Football Club to the next level.”

At the event, the full squad were presented on-stage. For the upcoming 2024 season, Shenzhen Peng City has welcomed new players including Thiago Andrade, Zhang Weiand and Lin Chuangyi who have recently joined the Club.

The Captain, Zhu Baojie said:

“The team regrouped during the Chinese New Year in Shenzhen to prepare for the season and we already feel at home here. Since we arrived in Shenzhen, we can clearly feel the care and support from the city and people. Under our Head Coach Jesús Tato, we will give our best on the pitch and hopefully play entertaining football for all the fans in Shenzhen.”

At the end of the event, a Government Official presented the team flag to Zhu as an encouragement and good wishes for the new season. He reiterated that Shenzhen is rooting for the Club and knows the team will fight for the city and all the fans in Shenzhen.
